Soil Engineering’s 40×30 Programme moves ahead with Science Based Targets commitment
As the UK’s leading Ground Investigation and Grouting supplier we’re taking major steps to reduce the CO2 impact of the early stages of construction. Our 40×30 commitment isn’t just a slogan, it’s a mission, and making sure it is properly validated is critical to its success.
This week we’ve made a formal commitment to delivering our target of 40% CO2 reduction by 2030 through achieving science based targets, with full external validation. This is a key step on our long term journey to full carbon neutrality. Working with the Science Based Targets Initiative we’ll be progressing our Environmental Plan through target identification and validation, a process we’ll be sharing with our stakeholders. We’ll provide regular public updates on our progress, and hope to share lessons learned not only within our group of companies, but with the wider Ground Investigation and Grouting industries.
40×30 is the first step of our journey to net zero by 2050. This near term target, and the plan for achieving it, will be submitted to the Science Based Targets Initiative for approval. However, we’re not just putting plans together and waiting…
With key steps already being trialled (and further news to come on them soon), we aim to build on progress we’ve already made. This includes the complete removal of direct carbon dependence from our Head Office, increasing removal from our other fixed premises through facilities investment and the use of renewables based tariffs. Our sites are already making progress on this too, and staff are providing us with engaged feedback on new ideas on a regular basis.
